Yes. While the upper glass is anti-newton, the lower glass is not, and will
make rings for many frames. You need to use a mask to hold the film off the
lower glass. Nikon supplies a set of masks, but they only handle one frame,
so you need to cut your own masks for your camera's frame spacing.

Glass holders makes film flat. Holding film off glass making it not
flat. Very very strange

Like the Nikon 35mm scanners, the 8000's DOF is miniscule, and you need to
make sure the film hasn't buckled by measuring the focus at several points

I've changed my Nikon 4000 to Nikon 5000 and most DOF problems are gone.
Hope, it would be same for 8000/9000.

The holder with 8000 is a problem with 6x7 but I've solved it.
You need to periodically clean the rubberised strips on which the film lies.
Clean with soapy water and then rinse and dry.
They when you put film down on the first one, run your finger along the edge
and this sticks it slights to the holder. Then you can do the same on the
second side before you apply the slight stretch with the sliding holder. If
it looks really flat it is.
It's a bit finicky but it works and it's in no instruction manual or on the
web.
