But cameras allowed "selfies" before smartphones took off.

I have a hand me down 2.3MP digital camera, and it has an LCD screen that
can be reoriented so you can see it while facing the lens. I thought that
was some selling point unique to that camera, but it isn't.

The Canon 1S (is that it?) 5mp 12X zoom camera I got for $20 last month at
a garage sale, it also has an LCD screen that can be reoriented. So if I
want to hold that big a camera at arm's length, I can see what the camera
is seeing. That camera wasn't some toy when it came out in 2005.

Technically, the self-timer was the first semi-selfie oriented feature, but it
never seemed as vulgar and tacky as those stupid sticks.

But-I mean, how ELSE can one make a piece of plastic pole in China for a
nickel and put a cool name on it and sell it for fifty bucks to idiot
Americans who use it in museums, accidentally punching holes in canvases of
great works of art when the phone falls off the damn thing?
HUH?!? Tell ME???
