B&H and Adorama Closed!

... Neil Harrington wrote: Those are all national holidays. People know when the national holidays are and on a few of them, expect at least some businesses to be closed or be open only for shorter hours. Also, each of those holidays is ONE DAY and therefore does not pose much of an inconvenience, compared to a religious holiday that lasts several days or a week. Technically, the stores could open during the time between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but they choose to shut down. It's almost like the forced shutdowns many companies have between Xmas and New Years. B&H was open between the two, I got a shipment from them in the lag... -- Skip Middleton http://www.shadowcatcherimagery.com |

B&H and Adorama Closed!

Patriot Day. Boston was shut down tight. The Patriots have their own holiday in Boston? Actually, it's the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill. It's also the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, but that's not a holiday in the US. And, it's also the anniversary of the Branch Davidian fire and of the OK City bombing. But Patriot Day is in commemoration of Bunker Hill. Oh, it was also my wedding anniversary; that's the reason I know all that other stuff about that date. |

B&H and Adorama Closed!

Tony wrote: How about telling those jerks at Home Depot to have their non-Christian employees open the place on Christmas while we're at it. No comparison, many stores in the US close only 3 days in a year. (not counting small solo proprietorships) The furniture store down the street from me is only open three days a week. -That means they are closed about 200 days a year. They can do whatever they like, and it's never even ocurred to me to whine about it... |

Ever heard of Christians closing their businesses for several days or a week at a time, for religious reasons? Schools close for a week or two at Christmas and Easter. Everyone knows what the deal is, but they have to call them winter and spring holidays to keep the atheists off their asses. And I have never heard a Gentile complain that Jews keep their businesses open on Sundays, either. ??? Why would anyone complain that the store he wants to do business with is OPEN? Really, who cares about petty stuff like that. The OP apparently wanted to buy stuff at one of the big camera stores while he was in New York for the day, and then had to go back to Ireland. In the same circumstances I'd be ****ed myself, and probably you would too. It wasn't a national holiday or anything like that, and who (other than a Jew) knows or cares when the Jewish holidays are? |

I am not religious and had to look this up on Google: The holiest week for Christians, particularly Catholics, is called ahem Holy Week. It's the last week of Lent and includes some holy days that I never heard of before (and I was born and raised Catholic). That only proves you're _still_ not paying attention. |

The reason that businesses started opening on Sundays about 20 years ago was because of complaints that it was religion-based Doyou have any proof of that. As far as I copuld see, there were simply a lot of places that opened on Sundays to get the jump on those who closed. Then the rest had to open on sundays just to stay up. and it was interferring with other people's lives. I'm usually up until aound 4 am, but I don't spend my life bitching that someone isn't meeting my convenience. Who do you think did most of the complaining? It wasn't the Catholics. Now, most people don't care, because of busy lifestyles. -Rich |
