Better Printing
Hi Everyone,
I am looking for articles, tips, or web sites on "How to make better prints". I would like information on things like printer profiles and tips to improve printing, issues with papers and inks, or anything else related to printing. If anyone has any helpful information would you please post it to the list. Thanks Nath |

improve printing, issues with papers and inks, or anything else related to printing. There's a comp.periphs.printers newsgroup that has some good information. There may not be a whole lot of info there on printer profiles, but in terms of the hardware itself, there's good stuff there. If you go in there, watch out for someone called 'measekite' - this person ALWAYS TYPES IN ALL-CAPS (which I personally find hugely annoying), and insists on blaming every problem in the printing world on after-market ink. So if measekite starts babbling on about ink, take it with a grain of salt; there's definitely a bias and an agenda at work there somewhere. I think s/he sells OEM ink or something. |

The book -Color confidence- by Tim Grey is a good starting point ($10 used at amazon). Then ask around as to what paper people like with the printer you use, get a custom profile made at some place like cathy's profiles, calibrate your monitor and then buy a copy of Qimage to print with. You won't be sorry and this setup will pay for itself in the paper and ink you save. -- Stacey |

Useless book compared to Fraser's as is the suggestion the use Qimage. LOL so have you actually ever checked either out? That book is an excellent introduction to color management/human vision and is all most people need to know on the subject and is only $10. Qimage makes printing simple and avoids having to deal with resizing images, sharpening for the final print size or mistakes doing multiple prints on a single page. Given it's a free trial they can try it out and see if they like it.. Or is this just another canon users post with a axe to grind? Sad you feel you have to continually attack anyone who doesn't LOVE your 5D as much as you do! -- Stacey |

Get, read and follow the information in this book. http://www.colorremedies.com/realworldcolor/ That's all you need...l I can vouch for that book being the current "definitive work" on the topic. If you're serious about colour management you need to read this book at least 3 times. |
