Default WTB: Canon EF 28-70/3.5-4.5 I

I'm looking for an EF 28-70mm / f3.5-4.5 I (with 58mm filter size and
metal lens mount). Condition should be equal to KEF's "excellent" or
better, with clean glass. Thanks in advance.

You sure you don't want my 28-90mm USM

Yes Tom, I'm sure. I'm not knocking your lens for sale, but it doesn't
fit my criteria. I know the optical difference and I think you do also.
As a background, I used to own the 28-70/3.5, but I dropped and broke
it. It is the only cheap Canon standard zoom that I currently would own
based on the optics (my most important criteria) and it's smallness
would fit my girlfriend's Rebel nicely. OTOH, I'm might go for a
28-70/2.8L for myself if I could find it for $750 in good shape but I
haven't seen it for less than $800 so far. I'm patient though. :~)

Patience. I bought mine for $750 last fall in beautiful condition,
with box and all. It's definitely the best lens I own, optically and
just visually. And I have 4 other L lenses. I actually don't know much
about the earlier Canon 28-70/80 zooms, but I've heard that at least
one is quite good.

Correction:

The EF 28-70mm/3.5-4.5 II (not I) has a 52mm filter size.
