$2700 Nikon Df has consumer D5300 focus system?

Given the price of the "frankencamera", it's hard to believe that price
(of the AF system) was the main issue as they put the top-line AF system
in the D7100.
Size would be one reason (the AF system that's been used since the
D3/300 has a very large f 1.0 lens and takes up a lot of space under the
mirror box).
Mainly a marketing decision, with good AF system the Df, despite
ergonomic failings and butt ugly design, would be a pretty decent camera
with potential to cannibalise sales of Nikon D4/800/600.
As it is, it threatens none of those models, has a certain functional
niche (pre-AI lenses), and some appeal to people who like that kind of
thing.
