Konica 750 IR
Did someone say a while back that Konica only makes this stuff in a
single batch, once a year? The little grey cells tell me the magic month is May - anyone know? The local Jessops lists it, but it's on back order. -- ---------------------------- Paul Friday |

Had my dealer call Konica Germany, last week, and they advised it won't be made any longer. Just put the last 19 rolls of SFX 200 into the freezer. Run and get some while it lasts. Ralf -- Ralf R. ... Is the MACO stuff any good? Yes, but it still does not compare to Kodak's High Speed IR. Not by a long-shot; not in the depth of the IR spectrum or speed. I've got just about 100 sheets of 4x5 HSIE left and then it's the end of the world AFAIC for IR. That said, it's good for practical uses when you need to cut through blue haze. The larger the format, the better. Oh, and don't be discouraged about MACO's warning that you should load the camera in complete darkness. It was never a problem for me to load in simple shaded areas. Here is a picture taken with Maco on a 6x6cm camera. http://elearning.winona.edu/jjs/temp/lookout3.jpg and here is a heavily cropped extract http://elearning.winona.edu/jjs/temp/lookout1.jpg Your results can be better. I use Rodinal 1:100. Very Best, John |

Is the MACO stuff any good? It's not bad but given the choice I'd rather keep the Konica or the SFX. The Maco IR films don't have a real anti-halation layer but some sort of blue dye in the emulsion which is washed out before processing. This isn't as opaque as the real thing and can create problems with rivets, grooves or other things in the pressure plate appearing in the images. I have this trouble with my Contarex backs. The Maco is somewhat more like the Kodak IR material. I prefer the more subtle effects I could get from the Kodak and Ilford films. Ralf -- Ralf R. Actually I've never tried Konica or Ilford but I do like the Maco.
Here is an example. http://www.120scan.us/i/ir/39104813a.html Warren Peter Chant wrote: Is the MACO stuff any good? |
