Default FS: Nikon LS-2000 2700dpi film scanner

As the subject says. Located in Alberta, Canada. Here's a copy and paste
from an earlier post I made in marketplace.digital. I'm reducing the price
to CDN$400 firm and you pay the shipping. That's how much I was offered for
trade-in for the package from a local camera store. =) E-mail back for
fastest response. Thank you.

:::: Copied and pasted from a about a week ago in another ng ::::

Selling a Nikon LS-2000 film scanner. 2700 DPI and very good dmax for shadow
detail. I haven't checked out HP's lineup recently but the last time I
checked, HP didn't have anything that would appeal to professional
film-scanner users. For strips of film, the scanner will autoload up to six
exposures in a strip at a time. 35mm film. Hardware-based dust and scratch
removal with Applied Science Fiction's Digital ICE technology. SCSI card and
cable included and compatible with both Mac and PC. I don't recall if the
SCSI card came with the scanner originally but I know the card I'm packaging
is still worth about $120 by itself, retail. Only things missing from the
original package:

- Mounted slide adapter MA-20 (~$40 CDN brand new at your local camera store
and it's in stock at most Nikon pro dealerships)
- Original print manual (I have an update digital copy on CD with updated
software and drivers)
- Original packaging

I picked up the setup for about $2800 CDN about half a year after it first
came out (think it was about five or six years ago). Willing to let it go
for the lowest price you can find a Nikon LS-40/IV anywhere legitimate
(amphotoworld.com doesn't count if they sell it . . . that site looks like a
big scam). Try nextag:
http://www.nextag.com/buyer/outpdir....on+coolscan+iv
(lowest I see here is $399US . . . about $530CDN) You can try searching the
LS-2000 but the prices I saw were higher because it's an older model and
people stopped updating prices for them (some people still selling them for
over $2000US). The Coolscan IV still sells for over $1200 in Canada the last
time I checked. The Coolscan IV is optically identical to the LS-2000. The
two differ in interface where the LS-2000 uses SCSI-2 where the Coolscan IV
uses USB 1.1 (I think). Also, the newer IV implements Digital ROC and GEM
for grain removal and restoration of colour but I found those two features
to soften images too much to be useful and colour correction is really
overdone even at the lowest setting. the LS-2000 is a pro model and supports
Nikon's SF-200 slide feeder that auto loads up to around 50 slides at a
time. This option isn't available for the IV. For specs and reviews, check
these sites:

So as is, you'll be able to scan unmounted film but you'll need to get the
SA-20 adapter before you can scan slides. You get the film auto loader which
was the most expensive "accessory" in the package (It's normally around
$400, I think). If you're in or around the Edmonton, AB area I'm willing to
deliver, install, and instruct you how to use most of its functions. If you
come and pick it up I'll do all of those regardless. =)

If you are offered $400 CDN for trade in, I suggest you take it right
now and don't waste your time here. Coolscan V has been out for 5
months in case you don't realized it and it is priced less than
Coolscan IV. Local camera stores in Toronto sells complete package of
used LS-2000 for less than your firm price and comes with warranty.
