It's difficult to dislike Rep. Barney Frank.

I don't find it difficult. Where's the difficulty?

The guy's got the best
sense of humor on Capitol Hill. He was on Steven Colbert's show
recently, and traded barbs with Colbert and held his own against one
of the funniest men on television.

Thrilling. If he'd spent the last decade or so on TV comedy shows
instead of promoting all those NINJA loans which started the collapse of
our (and the world's) economies, I might find him as likeable as you do.

Nor has Frank learned much, evidently. Only a few months ago he was
trying to pressure lenders into lowering their requirements for
mortgages on multi-unit buildings.

If he'd been captain of the Titanic he'd probably have wanted to turn
the ship around and hit the iceberg again.

If you go swimming and drown in a rip tide, is it the fault of the car
dealer who sold you the car that got you there?

I don't think so, but you've hit on a good idea: by all means, retire
Barney Frank from Congress and let him sell cars instead. He will almost
certainly continue to cheat people, but his victims will then be limited
to his customers instead of the whole country.

Whoosh!

It seems that some people are unable to view a political figure as a
person and not just a politician. My point was that Barney Frank is
quick-witted, clever, and capable of humor, and therefore difficult to
dislike as a person. My point had nothing to do with his politics.

Neil is anything but quick-witted, clever, or capable of humor. He
may, or may not be, qualified for political office.

Franken is different. Franken was a professional comedian and
developed routines over the years. I remember when Franken and
Arianna Huffington provide commentary for Comedy Central's coverage of
the 1996 elections. He can be bitingly satirical, but I don't see him
as particularly quick-witted. For the most part, he drags out lines
he's been developing for years. Franken's a sketch artist (SNL) and a
guy who delivers prepared routines (Franken and Davis).

I think Barney Frank would best him on an off-the-cuff face-off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxMInSfanqg

These morons have started a world-wide recession...

And here's lovable Barney Frank at his hilarious best, explaining in 2005
the Republicans' "excessive degree of concern" about all those high-risk
mortgages:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW5qK...eature=related

I guess that has Tony and Peter rolling on the floor laughing their asses
off. That Barney, what a cut-up!

Years before the collapse, we had Greenspan along with McCain and other
Republicans warning about the risk to the financial system, Democrats just
pooh-poohing the whole thing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPSDn...eature=related

Not a single Democrat in the Senate joined the Republicans in trying to get
better regulation over Fannie and Freddie, while of course good ol' witty
Barney Frank was doing his part preventing any serious oversight in the
House as well.

None of which bothers Tony in the least. He thinks Barney is just the
funniest comedian around, and that's the most important quality in a
congresscritter-- isn't it?

Hitler was quick-witted, clever, and capable of humor. (Read "Mein Kampf.")
Nevertheless many people dislike him as a person. And yes, I suspect it is
because of his politics.

Neil is anything but quick-witted, clever, or capable of humor.

The likelihood that you would actually recognize those qualities in anyone
is vanishingly small.
