I knew what aspect ratio was before you were born.

you don't know when i was born, therefore that statement is false on
its face.

OK, I'm 72 and first dealt with aspect ratios in regards to my hobby
astronomy, in the mid 1950s.

then you should have been able to easily determine aspect ratio from
the information in the camera's specs.

Yes of course BUT, as I've stated several times, I hadn't seen those
specs at the time I posed my questions. If I had, then it would all be
a non-issue.

AND, I thanked you for giving me the site with the info, which I had
not had previously.

actually, you said it didn't answer the question:

unfortunately, you responded to your own post and failed to properly
quote my post, which destroyed all context. that particular post was in
reference to my post a few hours prior, which provided two links to
specs.

then when i said it did answer your question, you started babbling
about sensor shapes, claiming 'it might be 4:3 but i don't know', the
*opposite* of what you're now claiming.

yes it does.

OK then, please advise the shape of the sensor !

Since the field of the lens projected image on the sensor is obviously
circular, I assume the sensor is a square with corners near the edge
of the circle, to get the most information.

Someone else suggested it might be 4:3 but I don't know.

If it's a square, then each side would have the square root of 18.2 MP
or 4266 P in each direction, and is each pixel really actually 3, or 1
for each color, RGB ?

you were also confused about pixels, but that's a separate discussion.

you further said that you could not determine the aspect ratio from the
specs, again, contracting what you're now claiming, something which joe
also noticed:

Just where in the specs does it say anything about the aspect ratio of
the sensor ?! Surely if it was rectangular, and it might well be, it
would give the aspect ratio. All it says is 1/2.3 ", which is a bit
less tham 1/2 " . If it was rectangular, then one dimension wouldn't
be enough to completely specify, further sugesting a square.

What does "6.17 x 4.55 mm" tell you?

given the above (and more), you clearly did not understand aspect ratio.

you certainly saw the specs when i posted links to them, yet you still
failed to determine the aspect ratio, which means you really *don't*
understand it.

NO, once I saw the dimensions, I obviously had the answers to my
questions, but not before.

that's not what you said at the time. see above.

diffeqs has nothing to do with aspect ratio, which is nothing more than
division, something a grade school kid can do.

No indeed, not much to do with aspect ratios, but I was challenging
your assertion that I lacked math capabilities. Rest assured that I
well knew that aspect ratio is the height divided by the width of the
sensor.

based on your posts, some of which are quoted above, that is false.

When I see a fat person, I always tell my wife, that they have a low
aspect ratio.

and then she replies that you have a low iq.

OK, I'm not goimg to bandy about facts with a fool.

To summarize :

I had no knowlege of the sensor aspect ratio and resolution, so I
posted my questions accordingly.

Eventually I was referred to a couple of sites, with the desired info,
and from that point on, my questions ceased.

but do pay attention to details .

ad hominem, and if you're going to talk facts, it's best you actually
have some.

To summarize :

incorrectly.

I had no knowlege of the sensor aspect ratio and resolution, so I
posted my questions accordingly.

contradicting yourself once again:

do try to keep your story straight.

Eventually I was referred to a couple of sites, with the desired info,
and from that point on, my questions ceased.

nope. you were referred to a couple of sites that answered your
question within 1 hour of your first post, and your questions
continued.

Total BS.

OK, we can agree to disagree.

The record speaks for it's self.

I'm through with this thread.
