The RAW file would have been nice to have. At the time I didn't have CC. I suggest setting your G12 to shoot RAW+JPEG in the future. The only thing to remember is the Canon compacts will default to JPEG only if you use Auto, or any of the scene modes. I have my G11 set to shoot RAW+JPEG, and use Av, Tv, or P modes. I don't have to worry about that since I gave it to my wife. I just didn't like it. My big gripe with the G11 is, with my big hands and my Nikon muscle memory, make handling it awkward at times. my thumb is always activating the flash selector. That is one of the reasons I am seeking out an alternative lightweight, and have yet to settle on something. Other than the weight I like my Nikon DSLRs. -- Regards, Savageduck |

That is one of the reasons I am seeking out an alternative lightweight, and have yet to settle on something. Other than the weight I like my Nikon DSLRs. That was another reason why I didn't like the G12. It wasn't the main reason, which was the way the menu system kept hiding items acording to the way the camera was already configured. The fact that I have no possible need for the adjustment of XYZ right now shouldn't mean that the menu hides it from me and prevents me from adjusting it in anticipation of what I plan to do next. There was one item, I forget quite what, where I struggled for days to find it so that I could set it for what I wanted to do. I think it was something to do with bracketing but I'm not now sure. I even took the problem to a professional who used a G11, and even he couldn't find whatever it was. Eventually I discovered that the seting only became visible when you set the camera in a mode which actually used it. The menu system was full of things like that. I hated it. -- Regards, Eric Stevens |

The Chinese concert hall one fine evening in the Tivoli gardens in Copenhagen. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...Copenhagen.jpg Nice color. It's nice to see that you didn't make the typical ceneterd I've been there image. Only a nit, was the sky Siskerized? I don't know what you mean by 'Siskerised', although I suspect I have already been told. Nothing much was done to the sky, maybe a nudge of blue. Based on my visit two years ago, they've either painted the structure, or saturation is quite high in my recollection. I had hoped I had one to compare, but sadly I have only memories to compare. A fine photo, but if it were mine, I'd lower the sat. |

wrote: Did you use any scene mode which might boost saturation of the JPEG in the G12? No Since you used Lightroom for this shot, did you look for saturation clipping? No. It looked OK on my screen via LR. It's only when it comes back to me via Dropbox and Firefox that it looks overdone. The problem seems to be mainly in the yellow. Did you use any *Basic Panel* adjustments? Have both *Vibrance* & *Saturation* been pushed up? If so, you might find that pulling back on *Saturation* a tad should balance things up. *Vibrance* will only adjust areas where saturation is low. whereas *Saturation* acts globally. There was a little done there but not much. The point is that it looked OK at that stage. My monitors are overdue for recalibrating but I wouldn't think it could affect things to a great extent. I've got two monitors and I edited the image in LR using #1 and viewed it later with FF in #2. I wondered if the monitors were sufficiently different to cause the problem so I swapped them across the screens. There was a very slight difference but it was only _very_ slight. The only patch of yellow that seems to be possibly overdone is the awning over the stage. All the other yellows seem to be OK and about as I remember them. Maybe there is a call for a very slight area adjustment. I've just discovered http://ptgmedia.pearsoncmg.com/impri...mRGB_Space.pdf or http://tinyurl.com/lk2jmlh This is very interesting and relevant to the topic of how and why the colours of your image look the way they do on the monitor. Quite apart from all the usual stuff, it seems that LR uses a unique color space known as MellissaRGB which PhotoProRGB with a Gamma of 1. Note that it does not use this to display images. To make matters more complicated, it can be using a different color space in Library mode from what it will offer you in Develop mode. If your image is displayed by Photoshop it will look slightly different again. Finally, if in Windows (I don't know about Mac) you use Windows explorer to look at your images you will get yet another different interpretation of the colour space. Goes off scratching his head. -- Regards, Eric Stevens |
