Default Beware! Panasonic BQ-380 charger!

Mine overheated and ruptured the batteries. Attempts to contact Panasonic
by their support e-mail address have been noted as received, but have not
been responded to.

Today, I got an e-mail from the company I purchased the charger from.
Included was a letter from Panasonic announcing the recall of this charger
because of overheating/melting. There was a toll-free number to call for a
prepaid return mailer.

I called the number and talked to someone who could almost speak good
English. I was getting the run-around until I mentioned I had a copy of the
recall letter. They had made no mention of the recall but changed their
tune in a big hurry when I mentioned I knew about it. They weren't going to
tell me! They offered to replace my faulty AC/DC fast charger with a
slower, AC-only unit. Not.

I can assure you I will not be buying any Panasonic products in the future.
Slimeballs.

Good shooting,
Bob Scott

Interesting. I received the recall letter a couple days ago and
called today. I also talked to someone who's English wasn't great,
but I told her I received a recall notice and she asked for the model
number of the charger. She said they would send me a mailer to return
the charger (I can keep the batteries) and they would send me a full
refund after they received the charger. The number I called was
1-800-332-5368.

That's the number I called. I received another e-mail from the dealer
tonight. He said Panasonic was only refunding $24.00 and he would give me
additional store credit....

Did you buy your charger directly from Panasonic? Since I didn't, I'm
wondering how they'll come up with a refund figure -- they didn't ask my
purchase price. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Good shooting,
Bob Scott

The guy didn't ask me; he told me $24.99, which by coincidence is what I
paid, plus tax.

What was amusing to me is how Mr Panasonic listed a number of recall
choices, naming the products and model numbers. Any wandering inquirer
gets a list of Panasonic failures. Not good PR.

I was told $24.99 plus sales tax and I think that's what I paid.

Frank, do you know if the BQ-390A was listed as one to be recalled? Does
anyone else know?

I couldn't find any information about any recalls on the Panasonic site, or
through a Google Groups search.

Calling the phone number you all have called will be my next option. They
don't answer their phones over the weekend so I'll have to wait until
Monday.

The 380A was the single model in the letter.

The original poster reversed two digits in his subject line and I
think the quote above does as well. The model recalled in the letter
I received was the BQ-830A.
