Newsgroups are typically not the best vehicle for getting a decent price for
your gear.

Try eBay or an ad in your local newspaper.

Here most of what you get is people trying to steal your stuff.

I've had very good luck using marketplace newsgroups to sell my gear
over the years. Easier and cheaper than Ebay. Personally, I'd consider
local newspaper ads more likely to be invitations to thieves. Most of
the people you'll reach in newsgroups are not local enough to steal your
stuff, unlike those who read the local newspaper.
