I never heard about the latter incident, but here is a short summary
of the former incident, including another where a military airplane
hit a building on Wall $treet.

While you're bitter and cynical about results not obtained by writing the

Hmmm...this is the second assertion today that I'm "bitter,"
"cynical," whatever, yada yada..

I don't know where you guys are getting that, except maybe you're
missing the resident black humor in my sarcasm. I understand some
people don't get sarcastic humor. That's okay, but all I'm doing is
tossing this stuff out for discussion, based on two recent
experiences. And I haven't expected anything out of the White House
since November, 1963. (That's pretty much for real.)

There's an underlying message here. To the President, or your representation in
Congress, a sole letter may not have much impact when seen by itself, but what
if you start multiplying it by, say, 10,000? That kind of volume -- and I'm not
talking about form letters -- is hard to ignore, and will effectively serve to
give those in charge a wake-up call. It's definitely worth thinking about.

Agreed. The demographic representation of "one letter equals X amount
of people who feel the same way" plays rather large in the way some
policies are formed. Generally speaking, the letter must be
hand-written and postal mailed rather than e-mailed. Some reps are
adept at hitting the Delete button, but an envelope they have to open
means actual physical contact (once-removed) with the
writer/constituent. Paper not only tends to build up, it effectively
becomes public record.

If 10,000 photographers wrote letters to Congress I'll bet something
good would fall from the tree. I've got extra stamps if anybody needs
them.

One comment re your dad getting the job: As I'm sure others can
attest, sometimes going over the head of a superior backfires. A
person may get the job, but management can make you wish you hadn't.
Sounds like your dad wound up on the plus side of that deal.

Best,

JJ

Wow. I almost don't know what to type as a response. I try to follow
Reporters sans Frontiers, yet I seem to have missed this one. Really
shocking behaviour. Thank you for sharing this report.

As you suggest, it's hard to know how to even respond to these reports.
Who is this visa requirement supposed to be protecting, and from what?

Only towards idiots, of which there are plenty.

And as I mostly post here to correct the nonsense posted by these
idiots, I can see why you might consider me aggressive and hostile.

I'm not refuting that, just pointing out that there are others, yourself
included, who fit your characterization of "so many Americans here".

Especially the ones who suffer from a nationalistic variation of "Small

That was my point -- a physical letter, NOT an email. Sorry if I wasn't
clearer.

My dad's immediate superior WASN'T the one responsible for that signature;
someone else in the hospital hierarchy was, and THAT individual was dragging
his feet.
