Default Infrared photo grayscale to rainbow look with photoshop

Is there a filter or method in photoshop of taking a grayscale
infrared image:

and turning it into an image similar to he

Where the brightest bits are red and then slightly duller yellow then
green then blue being the dullest.

(I would be taking a grayscale infrared photo with a camera then
hoping to colour it in this way).

I don't know of a one button quick fix solution, but I would think that you
could do it with the "replace color" function one color at a time. Select
each grayscale level and then assign a color of your choice to it. Repeat
until the whole photo is colored. You first have to change modes from B/W to
Color or it won't accept any color commands. Have you colorized B/W photos
before? It isn't as easy as it would seem. I like to create a new layer for
each color, changing it's mode to color and then placing only that one color
on the layer. Then I have full control of it to set it's opacity, tone, edge
blurring, etc. ( I use Photoshop not Elements, but you should be able to
easily do the same with Elements).
