Default Digital Camera Memory Cards - Oh No, I Have No Place To Store My Pictures!

Before a person buys a camera, its memory capabilities need to be
fully understood as there are many different types - plus we need to
know how much memory is needed and http://www.smasharticles.com/Articles/Hobbies/447.html

"one should buy one 256 MB or two 128MB memory cards. This probably
will provide enough memory space to meet the photo shoot requirements"

and 640K ought to be enough memory for anybody's computer, as Bill
Gates probably didn't say.

Probably good advice for those who are using a 1meg camera or are just
trying to replace their 35mm film camera. Concidering that a 6 meg camera
shooting jpeg, a 128mb card would hold about 33 images. A 35mm roll having
a capacity of 36 images would definately be equivalent to aprox 33 images
on a card. But this does not take into account the way that photo
enthusiests tend to take photos when freed up from the film and
processing charges limiting us with film. When I go out on a photo safari,
a day of shooting 24 to 36 images on film was a good day. Now with
digital, a day of 100 images is not unusual.

How timely - I'd guess the article is at least 7 years old.

Am I wrong, or did my Rebel XT not come with a 16MB CF card? If that's good
enough for Canon, it's good enough for me.

Take three shots, download and purge. Take three more shots, download and
purge.

My Fuji S2 and my Nikon D200 both came without memory cards, which
seems good to me.

Yah, really.

I'm remembering my first PC had a 20MB hard drive. That wouldn't hold
two raw files from my D200. (I'd owned several other computers before
then, both ran CP/M and neither had a hard drive. I was a somewhat late
adopter, though, because what I could afford in a home computer was so
grossly inferior to what I was used to using at work, until I could
afford a PC with a hard drive.)

Neither my Rebel 300 or my later XT came with any memory card at all,
don't think any DSLRs do unless it's a store special.

And give that a 1 GB SD card goes for under $20 US, there is little
reason to buy anything smaller.
