It depends on the problem. Light seals and a bit of maintenance are simple and
cheap. A bad shutter or sensor puts it beyond economic repair unless you get
a suitable "parts only" model to cannibalise.


same for other products.

minor repairs are no big deal, while larger ones are usually not worth
it, even if you can find a parts model.

It's cheaper to discard them and buy another one second
hand.

I like to have the best of both worlds. There's something about the image
quality of my D700 that is extremely pleasing straight out of camera, although
there's no denying that my D750 has more dynamic range, is better in low light
and has even better AF.


d700 was good in its day, but has long been surpassed.

the results from a d750 can be made to look like a d700 though.
