It is a technique and it can be used as one wishes. Many use it to
produce very contrasty, colourful, attention getting images that do have
a certain aesthetic - easily worn out.

In the end it's not what we judge as "right" but what people ooh and
aaahh over. Just think of Anne Geddes for overworn styles ...
