I tried building my own too. When I built the 4x5 tubes they worked fine but
the larger caps of the 8x10 size presented problems. If I made the caps tight enough to prevent leakage then it was difficult getting them off and that messed up my development times. If I made them loose enough to get off quickly they leaked. I finally decided that life was too short and bought some that really work well and are a pleasure to use from The View Camera Store.
