Default Brand new Canon XSi with 18-55mm IS lens

Picked up a new XSi body and the new amazing kit lens with image
stabilization yesterday. Everything seems to be working great as far
as I can tell. It's fun to take hand-holds inside at 1/8 sec and have
them come out sharp.

I already have the 40D with the 17-55 f2.8 IS, and it is an absolutely
solid platform. But it is too heavy to carry around all day. I'm going
on a trip to China and I need something light and handy for that.

The new XSi with the 18-55mm IS is half the weight and has even more
pixels. Performance at ISO 1600 looks to be satisfactory, so this
combo is ideal for what I need when I'm travelling light.

(I'll probably take the 70-300mm too, to get full frames of the
pandas...)

I bought an XSi too the other day. It's cool to possess one of only a
couple in the city. But it's a bit like counterfeiting a 2009 coin. It
won't be special for long.

Amazing to get an IS lens for just $100.

After you use the Xsi for a while I would like to know which camera you prefer if you could only have either the Xsi for the 40D?  Also is the 40D worth more money?  Another thing I would like to know is the feel of the Xsi.  Previous Rebels had a grip that was criticized as too small.

Where did you order your XSi from?

I bought it locally. Quite surprised they had one. It was not on their
web site.

Bein' on a tight budget, and having only recently acquired a used 300,
