Default Chinese horrors. Apple suing Amazon retailer for selling fake Apple products

Fake Apple Chinese parts, as opposed to real Chinese Apple
parts...Years ago, every electrical device you saw in N.America had CSA
or UL approvals. Today, the market is flooded with devices that don't
have any approvals. Let the buyer beware.

Amazon isn't the only place you will find that stuff. Just go into any
gas station, 7-Eleven, or Middle-Eastern/South Asian run convenience
store and they will be right there with all the other junk next to the
cash register.

Walmart, Cosco, etc, etc. It's like the auto companies. If one or two burn down a house and kill people, the sheer profit from selling $.50 items for $10.00 a piece easily handles any lawsuit.

Those fake chargers are potentially very dangerous - much worse on
average I expect than "off branded" or aftermarket products.
The circuits use a capacitor for electrical noise reduction, and it's
bridging between the primary and secondary of the transformer. If it
fails, you get un-isolated (from earth) mains voltage to the low voltage
output - and the device being charged. They're supposed to use a safety
certified "y-cap". Teardowns of the fake chargers seem to invariably use
uncertified caps - which cost a few cents less. The transformers are
also crap - poor insulation etc, and failure could have the same
consequence.
The makers couldn't give a crap about IP laws, no surprise they also
don't give a crap about safety regulations. The thing they pay a lot of
attention to though, is getting their fakes to look as close to the
original items as possible.
