Default How to annotate screenshot using iPhoto freeware (three basic tasks)

The three things anyone would need to annotate screenshots a
1) text boxes (placed anywhere, not just captions at the margins)
2) curved arrows (to point to specific objects in the screenshot)
3) open circles & boxes (to highlight objects in the screenshot)

I'm new to the iPad, which I just bought yesterday.
I downloaded the iPhoto freeware from Apple.
It does all sorts of "things" but I can't find the three I need.

So, my question is how do I do those three things above (circle
things, point to them with arrows, and add a text box at the
blunt end of the arrow) in iPhoto?

Actually, as I think about it, the real first question is:
QUESTION: Can those three basic things be done in iPhoto?

Nope.

Download Skitch for iPad from Evernote. Also freeware, and does exactly
what you want.

There are assorted apps you can do that with, but if I want to, I usually
move them to my laptop where I have more options.

Nice. Very nice this Skitch. Way better than iPhoto!

The first thing I did was open up a snapshot of a
car rental agreement in Skitch. On the right side
of Skitch was a "crayon" icon, which, when selected,
enabled me to circle the rental agreement reservation
number (the default color was red).

Then, hitting the "a" icon at the right of Skitch,
I was able to annotate by clicking on a spot in the
photo and a keyboard showed up, where I typed the
annotation.

Then, on the right of Skitch, I hit the "arrow" icon,
and it allowed me to draw a straight arrow with my
finger, from the annotation to the circled numbers.

Pressing and holding on any of the three items allowed
me to move them to a new position, if needed. I could
even press on the "blur" icon, to blur out sensitive
information in the car rental agreement (such as the
credit card number) simply by drawing a blur box over
the desired areas.

About the only thing Skitch didn't do, that anyone
wishing to annotate a screenshot or photo would want,
is that the arrows are straight. I could find no way
to curve the arrows.

The other features I could easily see were the ability
to draw a perfectly rectangular box (as opposed to my
hand-drawn circle) and the ability to change colors.

The only absolutely useless feature was the emoticon
feature, which I found sophomoric and would be embarrassed
to be seen using. One other feature was the annotated
checkbox and annotated question-mark feature, which, if
I had a need for, might be interesting, but, which I felt
unnecessary (I'd prefer a curved arrow instead).

Skitch allowed me to intuitively choose colors; but those
colors were limited to red, green, orange, yellow, blue,
pink, white, and black (which is quite enough for me).

It wasn't at first intuitive (like all things Apple), but
I was able to easily change the width of all drawn lines
with the color menu, simply by changing the size of a big
black dot (the size of which bore absolutely no resemblance
to the size of the line drawn - but whose "relative" size
made the lines drawn either pencil thin or paint-brush
wide).

All in all, Skitch is a wonderful application for performing
three mandatory annotation tasks of:
a) Drawing circles or boxes around desired objects
b) Adding text annotations near those drawn boxes
c) And, connecting the annotations to the boxes with an arrow

The only flaw was the arrows are limited in shape to one
shape and to a straight line, which is perfectly reasonable
in a freeware app.

Thanks again for finding and suggesting Skitch for annotations!

Actually, my big problem is I don't know how to easily
move my photos from the iPad over to my Windows 7 machine.

So, I'm pretty much stuck with annotating my photos and
screenshots on the iPad itself because I can't get them
off the iPad easily.

If you know of freeware to get photos and screenshots OFF
the iPad onto Windows or Linux, that would be helpful.

In addition, I noticed that it asked me to save with
a caption, when I tried to send it out (which is a nice
feature).

Then it immediately allowed me to send via email, where
it automatically put the caption into the subject line
of the email (which again, is a nice feature of Skitch).

So, overall, other than the fact Skitch doesn't draw
nicer arrows, everything else about it was fine for
my purposes. So it gets about a 4 out of 5 or a 9 out
of 10 for my purposes.

That's a nice program, and I very much appreciate
you suggesting it. It beat iPhoto by a kilometer for the
purpose of annotating a screenshot or photo!

Set up the same free gmail [yahoo - MSM, whatever ] throwaway account on the
iPad and the laptop.. send the jpgs to yourself :-)
Voila

The alternative is to install iTunes on your laptop ??

Or
----
PS there is a gizmo that plugs into the ipad - for cameras,

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...connection-kit

Check the Apple forum to see if this will work in reverse (ie ipad to memory
card/stick)

Cheers
Tommy

I just downloaded it to play with later 8-). Sometimes it's useful to edit
on the iPad.
