Cable release adapter for Minolta Dynax 500si
I've got a Minolta Dynax 500Si (I think the Americans know it as the
Maxxum). Not the 505, this is a 500. Yep, it's about 10 years old. I want to get a cable release for it, but the shutter button is not threaded in any way. I'm guessing I need some sort of adapter kit - any suggestions? Suggestions as to a suitable cable are also welcome. Thanks |

There is a remote socket cleverly hidden at the right side of the body (at the side of the hand grip). A rectangular plastic cover. Inside is a contact with three pins, which will accept either a Minolta RC-1000 cable release (available in L and S versions, long and short) or a homemade connector (use a CD-ROM audio connector and cut it to fit). One of the pins is ground, one is "activate af", one is "fire shutter". Just short out the relevant pins. "CD-ROM audio connector"? I've never seen a connector like the one for the Minolta remote anywhere else... do you mean, for examlple, like a connector at the back of a computer CD-ROM drive? I have the short version and I'd like to make an extension cable... so if I can find a male/female pair I'll be in business... Yes, but they tend to have four pins, so you have to cut it off to fit. I have the short version and I'd like to make an extension cable... so if I can find a male/female pair I'll be in business... No need. Open the release, unsolder the cable, insert a 3.5mm audio socket (female walkman connector) where the cable comes out. Add a male plug at the cable end. Now you can extend the cable with any stereo headphone extension cable, and if you plan correctly, you can get shutter release only from a mono extension cord. I have done this; works like a charm. |
