Woops. Not American. I didn't think of that.
Your ship coming in means you're getting some
kind of payday after a long wait. As wealthy
merchants in earlier centuries would have had
when their ship full of goods from elsewhwere
finally arrived in home port.

The cartoonist
portayed Roy's "**** coming in" with a pickup
truck arriving carrying an outhouse. The visual
joke was a bit awkward. But it portrays the
current US situation. Half the population believes
Trump will make their ship come in, in one way
or another. The other half are aghast at the
inexplicable naivety of that assumption. And not
only naivety. Another American expression is
apropos he Cutting off your nose to spite your
face. The Trumpians are celebrating bitterly as
they work to harm themselves. The very people
who will suffer most, the poor, are the ones who
stand to lose the most. But as has happened
ever since Reagan, a charming personality can
fool most of the people most of the time.

The cartoon also portrays something that's
peculiar to the US. In contrast to most of Europe,
we have a very large rural population. To some
extent we're a rural nation that idealizes simple
values. So we're generally less sophisticated than
Europeans. We have a long history of resenting
uppity types who use big words. Trump appeals
to that vein of the American psyche. He grabs
pussy. That's something any normal person can
relate to.

The cartoon is showing poor, rural Americans,
living in a shack. Many of Trump's supporters clearly
think his TV show is more real than the world where
real politics and economics are playing out. They
think they just elected some kind of hybrid magician,
a cross between the good witch of the north and a
mafia kingpin. (Sorry. More American references.)
And Trump is not letting up. Yesterday he chatted
with the leader of Taiwan. It looks like he might
fire China on Monday. He seems to believe the
TV show mythology, too.
And he's not even actually the President for another
month and a half!

Thank's for your effort...

| The crescent on a mobile loo... What's the joke?

My understanding was a play on words. It
was a good joke but it's hard to make the
point in a picture. Roy's ship didn't come in.
Rather, **** is coming in. Trump promised
all the angry people that he'd make it all
better for them. Now it's "hitting the fan".

Interestingly, the Trump supporters are bending
over backward to defend him. I suspect that
when things really go south they'll blame
"Washington insiders" for interfering with the
Trumpian Golden Age. I'm very curious at what
point, if ever, the Trump devotees might turn
on him. So far there's just an odd celebration
of crassness.

I read awhile back that Trump was promising
zero tax for anyone making under $25K. They
could just file a form that says, "I win."

http://time.com/money/4052714/trump-tax-plan/

But as the article points out, tax is already low
or non-existent in that bracket. Someone making
$25K is paying a lot for social security, but probably
not much in Federal tax. And how will Trump pay for it?
How will he get the change passed? The fools don't
think about that. They just like his flippant manner.
The bully's on their side. What could go wrong?

In the last two days, Trump made some foreign policy blunders, because
he has no clue as to what he is doing:
His defenders are scrambling to justify what he did.
Taiwan.
Philippines.

Me? I thought that was what the Trump supporters
were doing. To my mind conservative vs liberal is
a battle between two ideologies: one leaning socialist
and the other leaning monarchical. Trump isn't
conservative. He's completely out of the loop.

But the small gov't crowd do tend to be somewhat
anarchistic. Remember the Tea Party and Grover
Norquist? Another group of selfish servants of the rich
who suckered the poor into supporting them:

"I'm not in favor of abolishing the government. I just
want to shrink it down to the size where we can
drown it in the bathtub."

| Some government is necessary. Right now we have
| TOO DAMNED MUCH government. I work with people

You work with Russian immigrants and they've told
you how the US should operate? Should I be impressed
by that? I'm friends with a Russian couple who are both
programmers. They say the thing that really strikes them
about the US is that while Russia has very similar laws,
those laws inexplicably work in the US. One can buy
a house without fear of the mayor stealing it, and get
a speeding ticket without having to pay off the cop who
pulled you over. They think that's amazing. But it does
nothing to address exactly what "TOO DAMN MUCH"
we'd all agree to do without.

What, offending the dear sweet wonderful Chinese
by admitting that Taiwan exists as an
independent country? It's about time the
*******s got over themselves.

Philippines.

What "blunder" was that?

I strongly suggest that you do some background reading on foreign
relations with China, and learn how they can buffer with Russia, and why
they are the only country that can prevent North Korea from blackmailing
us. Next you'll ask how about the relations between two nuclear powers,
Pakistan and India.
You might also want to learn something about human rights and widespread
government sponsored murder in the Philippines, and how our present
government is dealing with it. .

Do I hear the '50s calling?

In the opinion of probably the majority of educated citizens, those
items are essential to the well being of our country.

Golly gee! You being inconsiderate of traffic behind you and you
complain?! Really?

As he said, the A-hole put himself too close to maneuver.

I doubt I'd do different in taking my sweet time.

Some time ago I didn't cross on a green light because it was jammed on
the other side (a fellow doing an immediate left turn into a small store
parking lot). Guy behind me (pickup truck of course) was going bananas
on horn and high beams. The gods smiled, by the time the guy across
cleared, I was able to go on the yellow leaving trucky boy behind on the
red. Not like he couldn't see what was going on.

That's a bit different, and Peter explained his situation better. My
only point is if one has created a bottleneck, it's up to him to clear
it as soon as possible, regardless of the boorish behavior to the rear.

A grand explanation! Indeed, thanks on behalf of all halfwits and non-US
residents. (Two separate groups to be sure, though there's some overlapping)

(And plurals do not take an apostrophe.)
