FA: Near Mint Vivitar 500mm f/8 Mirror Lens for Nikon
But Nikon makes the 500mm f8 Reflex-Nikkor, that is generally a good
lens. How would a Vivitar lens be better? |

How would a Vivitar lens be better? --------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe because it's less than half the weight - and the fact that none of the CAT lenses - even the Nikkor are "that" great. ds |

It's only 4-1/2" long! Yet it's a full 500mm f/8 Macro-focusing Mirror Lens to a 1:2.7 reproduction ratio" I own both and I'm selling the Vivitar but I won't be carrying the Nikkor around in my camera bag all the time. It's bigger -- it's heavier -- and the image is brighter and it's easier to focus. Both lenses have their good points. For the average shooter, I'd say that the far cheaper Vivitar is better than the Nikkor. Norm |

Minolta also made some good mirrors (the 250mm, anyway), as did Tamron with their 300mm f5.6, though I agree with you that most others were not very good... -- David Ruether http://www.ferrario.com/ruether |
