Default Zoom, SLR and P&S

I have kodak P&S 37-111.
I shop pic at 37 mm and next I shot pic with Canon xt at 35mm.
Why kodak pic was much wider?

Because the P&S lens is not 37mm - it is a 37mm 'equivalent' in terms of 35mm format. The Canon Xt is using a true 35mm lens but the
sensor is smaller than the 35mm format.

Cheers

... so on the XT the lens has about a 1.6X smaller FoV, so about 35 * 1.6 =
56mm equivalent FoV or "crop".

To get 35mm on the Canon you need a 20 or 24mm lens, nothing will be
exactly 35 unless you use a 17-x zoom (most companied have several
zooms around there).

Are there models with bigger sensors?

Yes, both Canon and Nikon make sensors as large as 35mm film (36*24mm)
