Emphasizing the most horrific aspect of mirror-lenses. I've taken
shots that show no donuts because there were no specular highlights.
That is the mirror lens's best destiny.


A cat lens is not intended to be used as a general purpose lens. Many
of us like the effect, and use one for that purpose. Your comment is
about as valid as complaining that a wide angle lens is not good for
wildlife.

The 500/8 and 17-40/4 is about the same size, takes the same filters
and the mirror weighs less, so it's easy to bring even if you don't
plan on using a long lense...
