Good point. Almost certainly some of his photos will be there only as
printed photos rather than negatives.

The appropriate strategy for his purposed might be to (depending on
the quality desired/possible) to scan from the positives rather than
the negatives.

This will be faster at least, and the Epson can also do negavtives
pretty well.
