Here there ia aome discussion about a rumoured new sensor with
global shutter:

In the comments somebody is writing "Blackmagic, Canon and Sony
have made cine cameras with global shutter for years."

So do these sensors with global shutter already exist, and if
yes, why aren't they in digital (still) cameras?

I wonder if full sensor read-out take a lot more power?

IME should be no different - esp. for CMOS sensors. The 'strobe'
(signal from the controlling electronics) captures the entire image for
the exposure period at one go.

With a shutter angle of 180° (typical film setting that can be emulated
in a digital sensor), there would be oodles of time to then read the
sensor, esp. with DMA transfer.

Possibly a special to type memory transfer scheme (buffer on sensor
chip, thence DMA to camera memory thence to storage (card)).

Seems like the size of the sensor would increase or the pixels would need to shrink to maintain resolution which would mean
lower performance.

No need for that if the data transfer speed is high enough.
