"Agents" (?) for photo-graphic artists?

Hi,

I'm looking for ways to market photography and graphic art. I've done the
usual gamut of web adverts, galleries, etc. A friend suggested that I try
to find an "agent" who would take on my work, and for a commission, use his
connections to try to make bulk sales of prints, etc.

I know that there are commonly "agents" or "agencies" used for actors,
musicians, etc., but I have never heard of "agents" representing artists.
Usually artists try to set up a liaison with a gallery - who then becomes
their "agent" for a percentage of their sales.

Has anyone heard of the concept of "agents" for artists (particularly for
photo-print/graphic-print art); or can anyone point me in the direction of
finding such a thing?

thanks for any helpful advice...

Gary

Gary,
A good agent can help - alot -. BUT you have to make images that can
sell. Most name photographers have talent or sales agents, that way
they can shoot and make money. It is a rare person that can make good
money through and sell in commercial photography. The problem with
getting an agent is getting in the door, so it takes sending portfolios
to several before you find one that feels that you are sellable. Most
handle more than one photographer, so you can often check on their
sales record. Worth their weight in gold.
