A little food for thought. How many megapixels do you need?

As many as you can hold steady that your lens can resolve... 24MP that
is "expected" and that that you should be looking for as a minimum in
new gear if you're "ambitious"...

But as long that the 1Dx is current I guess that you can get by with 18.
With the current premium lens lineup and the use of a tripod 60MP would
be ideal for FF.

The best camera is the one that you have with you and the EOS M with
four lenses fits my snug messenger bag nicely and even a coat pocket
solo with the 22/2.0 pancake mounted... And yes: My arms are good enough
to use it now! :-))

18.

When I bought my D750 I made the deliberate decision to limit myself
to 24 MPx. Had I wanted to I could have bought a 45 MPx D850 but I
didn't see that I would benefit from the file size.

With a higher resolution you get more crop ability, less sharpening
artifacts and etc etc... At 50MP you'll have little need of an
antialiasing filter since the sensor out resolves most but not all
lenses and skipping the AA will give you even more resolution... That
said: I really like my 8MP 1D2! :-))

Yeah!

I seperate the standard kit lens from it's body the EOS M3 , the body goes in
one pocket and the lens in another, usually on oppersite sides of my
jacket/coat.

I have an extra lens or two there at times. Habit from the Leica
years... Usually the FD 50/1.8 and Samy 11/2.0.

I've written about my light kit on my blog:

Utter nonsense. How can I tell anything about image size and resolution
by looking at poorly exposed, miniaturized jpegs on a web page?

It is after all just the author expressing his opinion, as many blog authors
do, and the jpegs presented are fine for viewing in the context of the blog,
rather than intense pixel peeking. Hardly “miniaturized jpegs”, but sized
for online blog viewing.

I posted it as an article which might be of some interest to folks who
subscribe to r.p.d, or a.p as it is far more on topic than much of what
passes through these photo NGs these days.

So take it, or leave it, and I suspect you would prefer to leave it.

My brother bought a D600 a while ago, then barely used it. Too big &
heavy, too hard to use it (he never managed to learn how to use it).
