Seriously, this lens makes a nod to Canon. The fluorite element.
Fluorite is soft, hard to polish and expensive. However, they still
have no fluoro-crown (ED glass) hybrid that can yet match its desirable
characteristics to make aberration reduced lenses. Canon has used it
for decades in high-end lenses.

Ken has the review up soo just get them chequebooks ready!

It still uses a huge number of elements which are needed because of
the zoom design. A 400mm f/4.0 prime lens could get away with as few
as 5 elements and still yield a razor-sharp image across a flat field.
Part of the high cost of this one is also that the large front element
is the fluorite one (note the flat protection plate placed in front of
it to prevent weathering and scratches). No extra filter needed. Nikon
pulled out all the stops.

Nikon's bleeding: No replacement for the Df or D750, no viable
mirrorless and the Sigma super tele killer is a joke. This one gives
"them" something to dream about...
