Nikon Coolpix P500 & Canon Powershot SX30IS - any thoughts?

Both of these cameras are in the $400 range and both have
optical zooms (36x for the Nikon, 35x for the Canon)
roughly equivalent to 24-800 mm in a 35 mm camera.
In reading reviews many folks have had problems with
battery life on the Nikon whereas battery life on the
Canon is a strong point.

Any comments from owners of either of these cameras?

Thanks,
Dick

When I got my SX30-IS last year, I got an extra battery
just in case, but so far haven't depleted the first
to the point of having to change while out and about.
I always top both of them off and rotate before leaving.

When shooting in /very/ cold weather you may find it helpful to keep a
second battery in your (warm) pocket for when the first starts to show
lack of power. When shooting several hundred pictures per day I have had
to change batteries very occasionally with my Nikon DSLR. I also follow
your top-up, rotate and change on a nightly basis when a shoot is
critical, but perhaps not as rigorously as I used to.

Cheers,
David

Canon SX30IS uses CCD; Nikon P500, CMOS.

A good comparison he

That must be the world's worst comparison / review. Not worth the paper its
printed on.

Would like to know why... :)

Just one example:

"Zoom More zoom 36x vs 35x Around 10% more zoom"

Since when was "36" 10% more than "35"?

Some are still correct, like CCD vs CMOS, 10fps vs 1.1fps...

Perhaps, but simply to say ISO 3200 is better than ISO 1600 without
providing examples of images shot at the same ISO is nonsense, as is
saying that "CCD" is better than "CMOS" or vice-versa.
