Finally got back to some of the photos from overseas. Had a
great day at Osborne House, Isle of Wight. Queen Victoria loved
this place, and in fact was her final resting place.

I didn't think that much of this shot in colour, but quite like
the B&W. What do you think? Too busy in the foreground, or
effective? I find it interesting to look at, all the angles,
lines and stairs etc.

http://piggo.com/~troy/photos.php?al...g_6887_hdr.jpg

Small piece of Piggins trivia - Queen Victoria's grandchildren
called her "Gangan" instead of grandma etc. My brother and I
also called my grandmother, who loved the royal family,
"Gan-gan". Brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

http://piggo.com/~troy/photos.php?al..._01/gangan.jpg

Moving right along...

The Needles rock formation, lighthouse and battery. Man, it was
sooo windy out there. I had to wrap my arm around a fence post
to stabilise myself for some of these. I had so much going on
trying to concentrate - wind, worried about exposure with the
white cliffs, haze. Not really happy with the results, but
meh...

http://piggo.com/~troy/photos.php?al...1/img_6922.jpg

And finally this really cool medieval church on top of the hill
at Godshill. Was instantly liking this place. Gravestones right
up to the building on all sides, stark trees with heaps of crows
nests and crows in the trees - ooooh, spooky.

http://piggo.com/~troy/photos.php?al...g_6992_0_1.jpg
But ... in practice, how long will the battery last when a camera is
used to take a movie ?

I have a Samsung TZ3, but I guess the same basic ideas can be applied
to other brands as well.

In other words : with a 4GB memory card, the manual states I can
register 44 minutes of movies.

But can the battery last 44minutes without being recharged ?
Maybe even an information source for burglars. Mark your equipment with
your driver's license number and save the info someplace safe. If it's lost
or stolen the info is available for reporting to the police. Most items
will be recovered close to the the area where it was lost or stolen.
>
> That’s where JustStolen.net comes in. Our website was established by
> Police Officers to assist consumers, college students and business
> owners retrieve lost or stolen valuables. The website is a powerful
> database that members can use to register their personal property. Any
> descriptive information can be entered into the database including
> make, model, color, serial number and any thing else you can think of.
> You can even upload photographs of your items.
> But along with the other great advantages of being a member, there are
> two fantastic features about JustStolen.net:
> • Once your items are registered, if they are ever stolen or lost you
> have all the information you need to give to police. Your descriptive
> information about the item has been stored in our secure database.
> • But here is the best part: When your item is recovered by police
> across the state or across the globe, they only have to log onto one
> simple-to-use website to search for its owner. They just enter the
> serial number or description of your laptop, iPod, DVD player or other
> valuable, and the item’s description and the email address that you
> entered when you first registered is there for them to contact you!
> Your valuable item won’t be sitting in some far away evidence room,
> because the police now know who the owner is, and they have an easy
> way to get in touch with you. It’s as simple as that! Your property is

How to choose a monitor for photography?

Hello

I'm looking for a larger monitor than my current 17" CRT. That will mean a
flat screen one - and I believe there are now two technologies to choose
from. Which is the one to look at?

Also, I read that cheaper monitors can't be calibrated to match the colour
input from the camera or the output from the printer. I also read that I
need 14 bit resolution to match my camera and a digital video card in my
computer.

Can anyone recommend a good site where I can read about the subject. I've
Googled round and round but haven't found anything that looks authoritative.
I'm in the UK if anyone knows of a decent shop/dealer within 100 miles of
Mid Wales.

Thanks

John
What are the likely results going to be?
